Tina Knowles Lawson, philanthropist, fashion designer and mother of Solange Knowles and Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, hosted the third annual Wearable Art Gala at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California, on Saturday 1 June 2019.
The Wearabe Art Gala is an an annual fundraiser for Where Art Can Occur, Tina Knowels Lawson's North Hollywood-based nonprofit gallery and performance space. Money raised from the gala also helps fund Tina’s Angels and Richard’s Warriors, a pair of mentorship initiatives that empower inner-city students ages 12 to 14.
The theme of this year’s gala was “A Journey to the Pride Lands,” inspired by Disney’s forthcoming CGI remake of “The Lion King,” in which Beyoncé stars as Nala. Guests at the event included Award honoree Tyler Perry, Beyoncé and husband Jay-Z, singer Kelly Rowland, La La Anthony, Chris Tucker, Jidenna and several other A List celebrities.
Dressed in Madam Wokie at the event were EMMY nominated choreographer, Chloe Arnold; Tiana King; Orialis Ashley; and my personal fave, Gina Lewis. Thank you ladies for wearing Madam Wokie.
